Kill switch: stay protected when the VPN drops

A kill switch blocks internet access if the VPN tunnel stops unexpectedly, reducing the chance that apps fall back to your real IP. GhostMesh implements a system-level kill switch on Windows as part of its core safety model.

What the kill switch does

Without a kill switch, a brief VPN outage can leak traffic outside the tunnel. The kill switch aims to prevent that window by stopping connectivity until the tunnel is healthy again.

It is especially useful on untrusted Wi‑Fi or when you need consistent IP masking for sensitive work.

How this maps to GhostMesh

On Windows, GhostMesh advertises a system-level kill switch alongside DNS and IPv6 leak protections listed on our pricing page.

On Android, OS constraints differ; keep the app updated and review connection status after sleep or network changes. If you need maximum control, combine OS settings with in-app protections.

Kill switch vs split tunneling

Split tunneling sends only selected apps or destinations through the VPN. Your kill switch policy should still cover traffic that is supposed to use the tunnel.

GhostMesh supports split tunneling where the platform allows; configure exceptions carefully so you do not widen exposure unintentionally.
